Background Info

In our schools, children learn about world religions and faiths and this teaches them about respecting other people's beliefs which we believe is important. However, we are of the view that children who have no religious beliefs are not represented in the school curriculum.

We believe that evolution should be a topic taught in all primary schools, not as a tool to negate religion but as a means to educate all children about the world around them. It could be implemented within religious studies and be considered alongside Christianity or any other faith. Its foundation is in scientific facts and it is crucial to our understanding of the world in which we live and share with all living things.

We have been informed that there is no specific element within the curriculum that concentrates on evolution. As a group we fear that our children are not receiving the education they deserve and that those with a religious belief are being robbed of the opportunity to understand the opinions of those who do not share those beliefs. In our opinion this is a significant gap in our children's education.
