Holyrood’s Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Relations Committee is in Dublin Monday (22 January – Tuesday 23 January) to continue its investigations into the Article 50 Withdrawal negotiations. MSPs will hear about a range of issues relating to Ireland and Northern Ireland that are linked to Brexit.
The Committee will meet with the British Irish Chamber of Commerce and learn more about how Brexit could affect key sectors of the Irish economy and trade between the UK, Ireland and the EU.
Joan McAlpine MSP, Convener of the Committee said:
“A core element of the agreement reached under Phase 1 of the Article 50 negotiations related to Ireland and Northern Ireland. We are keen to understand how the provisions in the Joint Report from the EU and the UK Government will be translated into a legal text and what the effect of that agreement could be in practice.
We particularly look forward to discussions with the Committees of the Houses of the Oireachtas on a range of issues relating to Brexit.”
Claire Baker MSP, Deputy Convener of the Committee said:
“Ireland is closely connected with Northern Ireland, Scotland and the rest of the UK through cultural, economic and trading links, not to mention the people that live and travel freely in these countries. We want to learn more about the anticipated effects of EU Withdrawal and how these might be mitigated to preserve the close and growing collaboration between us”.
The programme is as follows:
