Scotland’s role in the Article 50 negotiations is to be examined by MSPs on the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Affairs Committee, it was announced today.
The Committee is inviting views on the implications for Scotland and for EU citizens living and working in Scotland of the Article 50 treaty for the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union (EU).
The Committee also wants to find out how people consider Scotland’s interests should be represented during the negotiations.
Joan McAlpine MSP, Convener of the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Relations Committee, said:
“A lot of our work to date has highlighted the implications for Scotland in anticipation of the UK exiting the EU, but in this call for evidence we’re looking for views specifically on the Article 50 process now that negotiations are underway: what does this process mean for Scotland and, crucially, how should Scotland’s interests be represented?”
Lewis Macdonald MSP, Deputy Convener, said:
“It’s essential that Scotland’s interests are represented in the Article 50 negotiations. As the Committee has previously reported, Scotland’s demographic interests in particular differ from those of elsewhere in the UK, so we want to hear how Scotland’s interests can best be represented.”
The call for evidence closes on 18 August.
