*S4M-01622 Fiona McLeod: Honour Bestowed on Flight Lieutenant Duncan McCuaig DFC—That the Parliament notes the recognition given to Flight Lieutenant Duncan McCuaig DFC, originally from Killearn, who sadly lost his life on 28 September 1944 while flying on a reconnaissance mission over Bremen; notes that, as a reconnaissance pilot flying solo in a small, unarmed Spitfire, Duncan took photographs that enabled the army, navy and air force to plan battle strategies; further notes that Duncan who had just successfully shot photographs of the Focke-Wulf factory in Bremen was shot down and killed, at the age of only 24, while returning with this vital information; welcomes the honour bestowed on him by RAF Benson by the rededication of its spitfire gate guardian on 23 November 2011, which depicts the colours and markings of Flight Lieutenant McCuaig’s aircraft, and further notes that the proud daughter of this brave and distinguished pilot, Karen McCuaig MacDonald from Bearsden, was in attendance.
