First Minister appears before Committee Conveners


Thursday 12 September will signal a first with the Parliament’s Conveners Group questioning the First Minister on his Government’s legislative programme.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 from 13.15-14.30 at the Scottish Parliament and members of the public are able to request their tickets from today.

Speaking ahead of the session, the Parliament’s Presiding Officer, the Rt Hon Tricia Marwick MSP, who is chair of the Conveners Group said:

“For the first time, committee conveners will have the chance to question the First Minister collectively on his legislative programme for the year ahead. 

“This initiative represents a further step forward in the Parliament’s reforms to provide greater opportunities for Members and committees to scrutinise the Government.”


The session will be open to the public, webcast on the Parliament’s website and open to the media.

The Conveners Group

The Conveners Group is chaired by the Presiding Officer or a Deputy Presiding Officer and is a forum where Committee Conveners meet to take a strategic view on the operation of committees and to facilitate liaison between the Committees, the Parliamentary Bureau and the Scottish Parliament Corporate Body.

The Group handles a range of matters including:

  • promotion of practices to improve the performance of committees, in particular their scrutiny function; and
  • making recommendations to the Bureau on Committee business to be scheduled in the Chamber.
