European and external relations Committee to consider independence white paper

The European and External Relations Committee announced today that it will include scrutiny of the white paper setting out the Scottish Government’s proposals for a National Conversation on Scotland’s constitutional future within its forthcoming work programme.

The Committee will formally agree the work programme including its approach to the scrutiny of the white paper at its first scheduled meeting after the summer recess on 4 September. The agenda and committee papers for this meeting will be published on 30 August.

The Committee Convener, Jackie Baillie MSP, said:

"Given the content and significance of this white paper it is essential that there is effective parliamentary scrutiny of the Executive’s proposals. It is appropriate, therefore, that the Committee makes it clear early in the process that we will include the white paper in our work programme.”
