Focus on budget as Holyrood Finance Committee holds meeting in Ayr

10/11/2008

Scottish Government spending plans will be scrutinised when the Scottish Parliament’s Finance Committee visits the County Buildings in Ayr on Monday, 10 November.

Local residents will have an opportunity to watch as Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth, John Swinney MSP, faces questions on multi-million-pound Scottish Government spending plans for 2009-10.

The meeting is part of the Finance Committee’s scrutiny of the Scottish Government’s Draft Budget which was published in September this year. Workshops in the morning will give local groups and organisations the opportunity to air their views on the Draft Budget as it affects local issues. These views will then inform part of the committee’s evidence session with John Swinney in the afternoon.

Committee Convener, Andrew Welsh MSP said: “The committee is looking forward to taking its scrutiny of the budget to Ayr. The meeting will provide an excellent opportunity for local people to engage with the Parliament and the budget process.”

Background
The Finance Committee is composed of eight MSPs including Andrew Welsh. They are: Jackie Baillie, Derek Brownlee, Joe Fitzpatrick, James Kelly, Alex Neil, Jeremy Purvis and David Whitton.
