Freedom of information at the Scottish Parliament takes another step forward today with members of the public now able to gain instant access to information released to other people under the FOI (Scotland) Act.
The move means everyone will now be able to view information and documents released by the Parliament at the click of a button.
Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson MSP, said: “The Parliament already publishes much of the information it produces on its website including parliamentary reports, minutes of meetings and details of MSPs’ reimbursed expenses.
"This development, which gives everyone instant access to information released under FOI, highlights the Scottish Parliament’s on-going commitment to openness and transparency.”
The improved disclosure log builds on the Parliament’s existing Publication Scheme, which sets out the wide range of information already available at Holyrood.
Background information
The disclosure log first went live in 2006 and listed replies to FOI requests made to the Parliament.
Today’s enhanced version of the disclosure log includes electronic links which take the online user to the actual information and documents released in response by the Parliament.
A new, easy-to-use search facility has also been added to improve access to FOI releases. The Parliament’s aim is to post information online on the same day that it is released to the original requester.
Information will not automatically be posted online where statutory exemptions apply.
