The A75 is no longer fit for purpose. As the main road linking Belfast/Northern Ireland with the rest of the UK through the Lochryan ferry ports it is one of the few roads in Europe linking a capital city and servicing ferry ports which has yet to be made dual carriageway.

The volume and type of traffic using the A75 was never envisioned when the current road was designed and due to this travel upon the road has become a nightmare and at times downright dangerous as anyone who has travelled the road around times of ferry docking will attest.

It is long overdue that the A75 be made dual carriageway as the A9 is currently being as it shares a lot in common like accident statistics and the intermittent changes in the numbers of lanes/carriageways prompting confusion from those travelling west off of the motorway network or frustration for those stuck in convoys travelling west when the ferries have unloaded.

There would be financial benefits not only for the economy and tourism possibilities in Dumfries &Galloway but also a chance for an increase in commerce between Scotland, England and Northern Ireland.

The time to act is long overdue.

It's ridiculous that there are 2 villages between Ireland and the Continent that vehicles have to travel through and the are both in Dumfries and Galloway. For the main Euroroute that's neither safe or right.

A dangerous road with lorries having to sit at 40mph for 100 miles. Drivers become frustrated and take unessessary risks.

As the main artery between Northern Ireland and the UK, we must ensure that traffic is able to flow freely and the artery does not become blocked.

Long overdue for the amount of traffic, especially HGV vehicles.

I am 42 and even my late father would say the A75 badly needed upgraded to dual if not motorway! This road is no longer fit for use it has claimed far too many lives and destroyed too many families. I didn't realise that by the time a road gets upgraded it is already 10 years out of date! I learned this when I worked for a Civil Engineering firm back when they were upgrading the A74 to M74 I was young and even then it shocked me. Our roads should be safe and well maintained it's 2016 for goodness sake but yet we still live in the dark ages..why do we pay hefty taxes etc..HOW MANY LIVES DOES THIS ROAD HAVE TO CLAIM BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE?

This proposal is long overdue. The A75 is not only a major transport route, it can become matter of life or death for patients having to travel 75 miles from Stranraer to our nearest major hospital in Dumfries

How about doing the A77 as well. The sheer amount of HGV's on both roads is terrible.

the A75 needs to be dual carraige its strangling the economy of south west scotland through poor transport links, and need a urgent upgrade from stranraer to the M6
