MSPs on the Health and Sport Committee will visit NHS Highland in Inverness on Monday 23 September to see how they are delivering integrated adult health and social care to people across the Highland Council region.
MSPs will meet senior managers and Board Members from NHS Highland who will outline their ground breaking partnership approach with Highland Council. The Committee will also meet with service users to hear their views on the care they now receive. Staff will explain some of the practical changes and improvements which have taken place since April 2012.
The Committee is visiting the region to help inform their scrutiny of legislation currently being considered in the Parliament. The Public Bodies (Joint Working) Scotland Bill aims to ensure that the health and social care systems in Scotland work together to ensure people are not delayed in hospital unnecessarily and increase the amount of care provided at home to maintain independence and improve quality of life.
Convener of the Committee Duncan McNeil MSP said:
“As the number of older people in our community’s increases, more and more people will be reliant on high quality health and social care delivered by a number of organisations – the NHS, local authorities and the third sector.
“This legislation outlines the practical arrangements needed in order to deliver integrated care, but central to the Committee’s scrutiny is to understand how this improves outcomes for patients.
“To hear from front line staff will be extremely useful for the Committee’s scrutiny of this legislation”.

However we are starting to see some brilliant examples of improvements that are really making a difference to the people who use our services. I also hope they will meet the service users who are starting to benefit from this work”

MSPs from the Committee who will be in Inverness for the visit will be Convener Duncan McNeil MSP, Rhoda Grant MSP and Nanette Milne MSP.
The Health and Sport Committee is currently considering the Public Bodies (Joint Working) Scotland Bill at stage one of its legislative journey.
