Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee call for views on the draft budget 2014-15

The Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee (RACCE) is inviting views on the rural affairs and environment section of the Scottish Government’s draft budget 2014-15.

The Committee will be focussing its scrutiny on what the draft budget will deliver for rural Scotland and the environment and will use relevant aspects of the Scottish Government’s National Performance Framework, which includes strategic objectives, national outcomes, and national indicators, and also the Scotland Performs website, which measures progress, to assess this.

In particular, the Committee would welcome views on its agreed areas of focus this year, which are—

• Funding for the provision and improvement of broadband services in rural Scotland;
• Funding of flood protection and alleviation measures across Scotland;
• Funding for the delivery of rural land management and waste aspects of the report on proposals and policies climate change document (RPP2).

The Committee would also welcome views on any equalities issues relevant to its remit.

Scrutiny of climate change issues across other parts of the budget has again been mainstreamed this year with subject committees being asked to consider climate change spend when scrutinising their own relevant Scottish Government portfolios.

The Committee will take evidence from stakeholders on 2 October on the issues of rural broadband and flood protection and eleviation.

The Committee will take evidence on the Draft Budget on 9 and 10 October from the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment and the Minister for the Environment and Climate Change respectively.
