European and External Relations Committee visit Fort William

18.03.2013

Fort William today hosts two visits by Jamie McGrigor MSP on behalf of the European and External Relations Committee.  He will visit Lochyside Primary School in the morning to hear first-hand about children learning a second and third language.  This visit is just one of the many undertaken by the Committee as part of an inquiry into the Scottish Government's proposal to increase foreign language learning in primary schools.  MSPs have observed the language teaching in practice, meeting with pupils, parents and teachers.

This is followed by a meeting in the afternoon with Marine Harvest, a seafood company and producer of farmed salmon, to discuss the Committee’s inquiry into the Scottish Government's Country Plan for China and its International Framework. The committee is undertaking an inquiry examining the role of the China Plan in driving economic growth, inward investment and international trade between Scotland and China.

The Committee meets on Thursday to continue its discussions on these and other matters.
