A call for evidence has been issued by the Parliament’s Scotland Bill Committee. With a deadline of 9 September 2011, the committee would like to hear views from all interested individuals and external organisations.
Written evidence can be submitted in relation to all aspects of the Bill, both financial and non-financial. Views are also welcome on the six additional areas of power that the Scottish Government wants included in the Bill which is currently progressing through the Westminster Parliament.
Linda Fabiani MSP, Convener of the Committee said:
"The Scotland Bill is the key piece of legislation that this Parliament will consider in these early months of the new session. As the Bill reaches its final stages in the UK Parliament, it is vital that the people of Scotland have their say on how it can be improved.
"The Scotland Bill Committee has set out a number of key questions on which we want to hear views. Whether it’s your thoughts on taxation, borrowing powers, the Crown Estate, the role of the UK Supreme Court in Scottish criminal cases or any of the other issues we have identified, I very much hope that civic groups, businesses and individuals will send us their views"

The call for evidence sets out background information on the Bill along with details of recent developments in relation to increased powers for the Scottish Parliament.

The new Scotland Bill Committee is tasked with reviewing how the UK Government is responding to the recommendations made by its predecessor committee and also commenting on the merits of the amendments that have been, or will be, made to the Bill since the dissolution of the previous session of the Scottish Parliament. Its role is to produce a report by no later than the end of the calendar year on these matters and to decide whether to recommend that the Scottish Parliament gives its legislative consent to the Bill in its final form.
