Public invited to take part in opening of Parliament

25.05.2011

Members of the public are invited to be part of the events marking the opening of the Fourth Session of the Scottish Parliament on 1 July. Eight pairs of tickets are available, one for each of the parliamentary regions of Scotland.

Tickets are available for the public gallery of the Debating Chamber, where Her Majesty The Queen will address the newly elected members of the Scottish Parliament and invited guests.

Following the departure of The Queen, a riding of the Royal Mile will take place, marking the centuries-old Scots tradition of Parliament and people working in public partnership. The Session Four Riding will involve around 1,500 people selected to highlight achievements across every constituency and region of Scotland. The procession will advance through the Old Town to Holyrood.

In the afternoon, the Scottish Parliament will open its doors to guests and members of the public with an Open Day, free tours and musical performances to showcase young Scottish talent.

There are a limited number of tickets available to the public for this event, which is open to everyone across the eight Parliamentary regions of Scotland . There are several ways to apply for tickets. You can write to the Parliament at:
