Pupils from Portree High School have been crowned the winners of this year’s BT Scotland National Gaelic Schools Debate.

The two-strong team beat off tough competition from runners-up Bishop briggs Academy to clinch the coveted trophy after the final, which was held at the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday November 25.

Pupils from 15 schools across Scotland took part in the BT Scotland competition – now in its 10th year – with heats throughout November.

Eilidh Robertson and Anna McMullen from Portree High said: “We are delighted to have won – we didn’t expect it at all. Bishopbriggs did really well. Our Gaelic teacher is going to buy us a cake!”
