Leave the hatcheries to the people who know how to run them and how to get the best results from restocking.

I've have been employed as a riverkeeper for 30 years and during that time this countries policies on Salmonid conservation has been a collection of failures. It is time we started taking action by boosting Salmonid numbers by stocking, controlling predators and habitat management. It's not rocket science. If nothing is done in the near future, I fear that I will see the end of the king of fish in my life.

The people promoting the petition understand the system and have, over many years, pulled together and invested a great deal of time and resources in understanding and trying to address the continued and rapid decline in the numbers of Salmon in our rivers. As part of this process they firmly believe hatcheries are helping to stem the declines. Given their knowledge and selfless conviction, the Govt should take proper, considered account of what they have to say and enable the work of the hatcheries to continue.

Policy decisions work best when you carry public support and have open discussions

The policy being adopted by Marine Scotland is based on old and selectively interpreted research. There has to be full dialogue and involvement and it is disgraceful the way this is being railroaded through.

Marine Scotland have come to a debatable policy based on a selective take on old research and the absence of full and vigorous consultation is not acceptable in any way.

Used to maintain the cctv cameras at tay hatcheries and they do an incredible job.

Interesting how a hatcheries policy can been blundered in virtually immediately yet the Scottish Parliament can ignore rafts of information about the damage to the environment caused by the salmon farming industry. Double standards rule or is it more a case of palms being crossed with more silver by some than others?
