28 June 2011: The Committee took evidence from Stephen Wright, Chair, and Donna Alexander, Renfrewshire Parent Council Forum. The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government, HM Inspectorate of Education, the General Teaching Council Scotland, the Educational Institute of Scotland, COSLA and Renfrewshire Council seeking responses to points raised in the petition and during the discussion. Link to Official Report 28 June 2011 (512KB pdf)

1 November 2011: The Committee agreed to refer the petition to the Education and Culture Committee, under Rule 15.6.2, for further consideration of the issues raised in the petition as part of that Committee’s subject remit. Link to Official Report 1 November 2011 (442KB pdf).

29 November 2011: The Education and Culture Committee considered a petition by Susan Calcluth-Russell, on behalf of Renfrewshire Parent Council Forum, calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to make it a legal requirement that qualified teachers teach children for 25 hours in a normal school week, subject to existing local flexibility of school hours in primary 1 and 2. The Committee agreed to leave the petition open until the conclusion of negotiations on the McCormac review. 11 December 2012: The Education and Culture Committee considered a petition by Susan Calcluth-Russell on behalf of Renfrewshire Parent Council Forum calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to make it a legal requirement that qualified teachers teach children for 25 hours in a normal school week, subject to existing local flexibility of school hours in primary 1 and 2. 12 March 2013: The Education and Culture Committee considered a petition by Susan Calcluth-Russell on behalf of Renfrewshire Parent Council Forum on protecting the right of children to be taught by qualified teachers for 25 hours a week.
