Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to extend and simplify the system of Tree Preservation Orders to give all trees a protection similar to that enjoyed by trees in conservation areas.

7 September 2010: The Committee took evidence from John Scott, Neilston and District Community Council; and Jill Butler, the Woodland Trust and agreed to write to the Scottish Government, A selection of local authorities (City of Edinburgh, Scottish Borders and East Renfrewshire), National Association of Tree Officers, Royal Town Planning Institute, Forestry Commission, Woodland Trust (Scotland) Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Scottish Wildlife Trust, Historic Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland seeking responses to points raised in the petition and during the discussion. Link to Official Report 7 September 2010

23 November 2010: The Committee agreed to refer the petition to the Rural Affairs and Environment Committee for consideration. Link to Official Report 23 November 2010
