Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to through Scottish Planning Policies and Planning Advice Notes to establish a geodiversity duty which integrates all necessary local and national structures for the efficient collection, analysis and sharing of geodiversity data to inform better decision making processes.

9 February 2010: The Committee agreed to suspend further consideration of the petition until the joint study by British Geological Survey and Scottish National Heritage to establish the evidence base for a geodiversity framework for Scotland is completed and to write to the Scottish Government seeking a response to specific points. Link to Official Report 9 February 2010

23 November 2010: The Committee agreed to suspend consideration of the petition until the joint study by the British Geological Survey and Scottish National Heritage to establish the evidence base for a geodiversity framework for Scotland is completed. 8 March 2011: The Committee agreed to invite, in its legacy paper, the Session 4 Public Petitions Committee to give further consideration to the petition. Link to Official Report 8 March 2011

4 October 2011: The Committee agreed to close the petition under Rule 15.7 on the grounds that the joint study by Scottish Natural Heritage and the British Geological Survey concluded that a Geodiversity Duty should not be regarded as essential for the development and implementation of a geodiversity framework and that the Scottish Government is now working with the Scottish Geodiversity Forum, of which the petitioner is Vice-Chair, to take forward the issues highlighted in the joint study. Link to Official Report 4 October 2011 (472KB pdf)
