Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to to state how it is supporting and promoting independent vehicular ferry routes between the islands and the mainland and how the planning system is playing a constructive role in supporting the economic and social future of such routes.

9 February 2010: he Committee agreed to suspend further consideration of the petition until the draft ferries strategy on support for ferry services is in place and to write to the Scottish Government seeking a response to specific points. Link to Official Report 9 February 2010

26 October 2010: The Committee agreed to suspend further consideration of the petition until the Scottish Government has considered the responses to the consultation conducted across Scotland as part of the ferries Review and to invite it to outline the actions it will be taking to address the issues raised by the petitioner, together with a timetable for such actions. Link to Official Report 26 October 2010

26 October 2011: The Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee considered a petition by Donald Ewen Darroch on the governance of essential ferry services and agreed to discuss the issues it raises with the Minister for Housing and Transport in a forthcoming evidence session on the Scottish Government's Ferry Serices Review. Link to Official Report 26 October 2011 (452KB pdf)

22 February 2012: The Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee considered petitions PE1192 and PE1394 and agreed to recommend to both petitioners that they raise their concerns as part of the consultation on the Scottish Ferry Services Draft Plan. On this basis, the Committee also agreed to close both petitions.
