Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to conduct an inquiry into the responsibilities of private landlords, the levels of social housing below tolerable standard, and the impact ‘slum’ living conditions has on the health and wellbeing of both residents and the wider community, and whether such conditions should merit housing renewal area status and additional Scottish Government funding.

9 February 2010: The Committee agreed to invite the Scottish Government Minister for Housing, the leader of Glasgow City Council, a representative from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the Convener of the Local Government and Communities Committee and a representative from a local community based organisations in Govanhill to a future meeting of the Committee to discuss the issues arising from the petition and to write to the Scottish Government seeking a response to specific points. Link to Official Report 9 February 2010

2 March 2010: The Committee took evidence from Alex Neil MSP, Minister for Housing and Communities, Scottish Government; Councillor Philip Braat, Glasgow City Council; Tom Warren, Govanhill Residents Group; Hamish Battye, Head of Planning and Health Improvement, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde; and Anne Lear, Govanhill Housing Association, and agreed to give further consideration to the petition. Link to Official Report 2 March 2010
