Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to make provision for every school bus to be installed with three point seatbelts for every school child passenger and to ensure that, as part of a local authority’s consideration of ‘Best Value’ in relation to the provision of school buses, proper regard is given to the safety needs of the children.

18 March 2008: The Committee agreed to write to the Scottish Government to clarify what consideration and bearing the decision of Moray Council to provide seat belts on all its school buses will have and what encouragement it will give other local authorities to follow that Council and whether and how it will take forward the suggestion of Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People for a Children’s Rights Impact Assessment of seat belts in school buses. 12 May 2015: The Committee agreed to close the petition, under Rule 15.7, on the basis that the relevant Orders to devolve the powers have now been approved by both the Scottish and UK Parliaments and the Scottish Government has expressed its intention to bring forward the necessary legislation following the 2016 election.
