Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to review the way higher education in Scotland is set up and delivered in Scotland including:

• How students’ rights are enforced; and

• Whether there is scope to allocate more power to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman.

24 September 2020: The Committee agreed to write to the Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science and the Scottish Funding Council. Link to Official Report of Meeting 24 September 2020

9 December 2020: The Committee agreed to close the petition under Rule 15.7 of Standing Orders on the basis that the Scottish Government states that it has no current plans to seek to extend the existing powers currently available to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman, and the Scottish Funding Council states that there is “no evidence that that the current approach is not effective in protecting the interests and rights of students”.
